KW Technology Ambassador Update | December 23, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the KW Technology Ambassador webinar last Friday, December 19. If you’d like to view the webinar slides, they’re available in our Google Drive folder. Please note, you will need to be logged into Google with your @kw.com account in order to open the slides.

Here is a quick recap from last week’s webinar and some updates:
  • eEdge Updates: Several fixes and feature enhancements were released to improve your experience with eEdge myContacts and myMarketing, including:
    • “Main Text” content has been added to the Home Page of the 2014 website theme.
    • You can now crop listing photos in the myMarketing materials editor.
    • The Send Listings quick action for your eEdge contacts is functioning properly; it will now link to a selected properties page on your eEdge website.
    • You’ll only receive alerts for new email messages sent to your @kwrealty.com address when those emails come from contacts in your eEdge database.
  • KWRI Tech Training in 2015
    • On-Demand Training: Our team will dedicate more resources to updating our technology training video library, and you’ll see technology training more tightly integrated into courses such as Ignite and the First 100 Day plans that are part of KWU’s Action Training course.  This is in line with our goal to provide you – our clients – with the content and roadmaps you need to deliver comprehensive, localized training in your Market Center.
    • Live Training: Beginning in January 2015, our live webinars will follow this schedule (all times are in Central Time):
      • Monday, 2:00-2:30 PM: Intended for agents who are onboarding with KW Technology
      • Wednesday:
        • 1:30-2:00 PM: KW Video Basic Training
        • 2:30-3:00 PM: KW Video Advanced Training
      • Friday, 2:00-2:30 PM: KW Technology Ambassador webinar
      • As needed: Webinars to support new product releases or enhancements.
  • MC Tech Coordinator Monthly Calls: If you have an MC Tech Coordinator role, you will be receiving an invitation to register (or re-register) for the monthly MC Tech calls, scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month at 11:00 AM Central Time. If you do not receive your invitation by December 31, please send an email to mctech@kw.com.

Thank you for all that you do in helping our associates drive productivity through KW Technology!

KW Technology Ambassador Update | December 11, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the KW Technology Ambassador webinar last Friday, December 5. If you’d like to view the webinar slides, they’re available here. Please note, you will need to be logged into Google with your @kw.com account in order to open the slides.

On the webinar, we discussed the following topics:

One Inbox for eEdge Email

As of December 4, you no longer have to go to two different places to see email from contacts and non-contacts sent to you at your @kwrealty.com address. All of your eEdge email - including Webmail - is now accessible through your eEdge Inbox. View the slides from last Friday's Ambassador webinar for more information.

With last week's eEdge email upgrade came an additional change. Comments in your eEdge contact records are no longer individual records, but merged together in a single text box, giving you complete control to add, edit and delete comments. However, the automatic time and date stamps were not included in this transition. Due to high demand from agents, those historical time and date stamps will be added back in the very near future. Thank you for your feedback, and please continue to provide it.

Three L Blueprints

KellerINK, the publishing arm of Keller Williams Realty, is preparing to write the second edition of The Millionaire Real Estate Agent. They've been interviewing top agents and coaches to find out how Keller Williams Realty's foundational models have changed. Guess what they discovered? The Three L Model — that is, leads, listings, and leverage — is still as applicable as ever for illustrating the core business needs of agents.

The KellerINK team broke down their research findings into a collection of blueprints that highlight each of the Three Ls. Each blueprint outlines common challenges, solutions and opportunities to important issues facing our industry and market.   While this is not a technology book per se, it certainly has applications for the way agents use technology, especially the blueprint dedicated entirely to Internet lead generation. At just under 50 pages, it's a quick and inspiring read! Download the ebook now!

Upcoming Webinars

Just a reminder that we will not have an Technology Ambassador webinar this Friday, December 12. We will resume with the December 19 webinar. Register now, if you haven't already!

Have a great day!

As we prepare for Family Reunion 2015, we ask for your help. As we work to develop the content for our breakout sessions, are there any agents you would recommend that we interview on the following topics?

  • What agents have increased their productivity with eEdge? What was their business like before and after they started using eEdge?
  • What agents have customized their eAgentC website to the point that you almost can't tell it's a KW template? What kind of results are they getting from their website?

Remember, we are looking for folks with success in these areas who have also exhibited financial success!

KW Technology Ambassador Update | October 16, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the KW Technology Ambassador webinar last Friday, October 10.

The big topic was myTransactions Dashboard+ (PLUS) which is coming soon to eEdge. This top-of-the-line transaction management system offers unlimited workflows, one-click sign-in, and branded logo and color scheme visible to clients.

New features included in Dashboard+ include:

  • Document Approval Statuses: Any admin can designate which documents in a given folder are required or optional. This tells your agents which documents they absolutely need, or may conditionally need, within a transaction.
  • Additional Document Fields: The document editor now gives you the ability to add radio buttons, checkboxes, date fields and name fields. You can even link those fields to the loop details to determine what information should populate that field.
  • Loop Templates: Admins can control the people, documents and task lists that are auto-added to a loop when it’s first created. These loop templates also allow you to dictate what information or which documents are required before an agent can submit for review.
  • Trusted Service Providers: Admins and agents can easily add their network of service providers. These providers can then be introduced to your clients within the loop with just a few clicks.

For a complete introduction to Dashboard+, watch this training video on KWConnect.

Just a reminder that in each weekly Ambassador communication, we include links to slides and other training resources. In order to open these files, you need to log into Google with your kw.com account first. If you’re already logged into Google with any other account, log out, and then log back in with your kw.com credentials.

Finally, here are the upcoming webinars. Please spread the word in your Market Centers! And, don’t forget that we’re constantly adding new videos to the KW Technology section of KWConnect.

KW Technology Ambassador Update | October 9, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the KW Technology Ambassador webinar last Friday, October 3.

Here's a recap of what we discussed.

Coming Soon to eEdge … myTransactions Dashboard+ (PLUS)!
This top-of-the-line dashboard enhancement offers unlimited workflows, one-click loop creation and greater customization to match the way you do business. All Keller Williams associates can achieve even greater productivity and more control and efficiency in their office for a more seamless transaction experience. In fact, agents using dotloop and DASHBOARD+ see up to 23 percent more transaction production and close deals up to three times faster

Google Pigeon and eEdge Websites
Google recently released their Pigeon algorithm to provide more useful, relevant and accurate local search results that are tied more closely to traditional web search ranking signals. Many Pro and Business Suite users noticed that the SEO of their sites decreased dramatically around the time of the Pigeon Release, and a change to Pro site headers that Trulia made around the same time as the Pigeon release may have added to the negative impacts that Pigeon had on these users.
Last week, Trulia implemented a fix that to resolve Pro websites not indexing at all and Trulia support is reaching out to the people affected personally to explain.
At the same time, this is an important reminder that Google frequently makes additional changes to their algorithms. This is the nature of SEO.

  • There are never any guarantees in SEO.  Doing the right things will help your chances, but Google will always evolve their algorithm and not always in your favor.
  • The one thing we do know about Google is that they care deeply about the experience of the consumer.  Making your website a better experience for your visitors is always a good idea, and that work is not in vain even if it doesn’t lead to immediate results with SEO.
  • Heavy reliance on SEO is risky for the very reasons we are seeing right now.  It’s always a good idea to diversify your lead sources.

Market Leader Champion Program
The next recertification will happen in 2015; current Champions are not required to recertify this year. Look for an email from Trulia/Market Leader to confirm that you will not be required to recertify this year. Also, in the near future, Trulia/Market Leader expects to have an updated quiz ready for ambassadors who want to become Champs by the end of October.

How to access shared training materials on Google Drive
In each weekly Ambassador communication, we include links to slides and other training resources.

In order to open these files, you need to log into Google with your kw.com account first.

KW Technology Ambassador Update | September 30, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the KW Technology Ambassador webinar last Friday, September 26, and thank you to Brian Steele and Nicole Joyce for facilitating the event!

If you haven’t heard, Brian recently joined our KW Technology Training team as a Documentation and Training Specialist after one year with our KW Technology Support team. Brian brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and fresh ideas and we are so excited to have him as part of our team!

Nicole is the Houston Area Director of KW Technology, and we are grateful to her for helping facilitate the Mega Camp special workshop for Technology Ambassadors and MC Techs.

On last Friday’s webinar, Brian and Nicole shared the main takeaways from the Mega Camp workshop:
  • First, why do we do what we do? To arm our associates with the KW Technology tools that will help them more easily carry out the critical daily activities that bring them business. KW Technology complements the proven models of The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, and allows our associates to leave a larger online footprint by reaching more people as well as freeing up time in the office so agents can meet with clients face-to-face.
  • This is easier said than done. We face a few roadblocks.
    • Our tools and how they work together can be confusing for many agents. After all, we are recruiting sales people not tech people.
    • Many agents have been in business long before KW Technology and need to be convinced that there are business benefits to using our tools.
    • It takes time to learn our systems; associates need to be convinced that the time they invest in learning will yield a return.
  • So, how do we overcome these roadblocks? By making the transition onto KW Technology tools as simple as possible.
    • Provide new agents with an onboarding checklist, perhaps a First 100 Day plan or 30-60-90 day plan. Check out this example from Tiffany Hilbert in Greater Rochester!
    • There are certain technology tasks—initial account setup or a contact database import, for example—which need to be done only once. These tasks might not warrant the time and energy it takes to create, advertise, and facilitate a training class—not to mention the time it takes out of an agent’s day to attend. Why not just do the work for the agents if they don’t need to remember and repeat the steps? Save training for those tasks—keeping a website fresh and database fed, for example—that are more directly linked to increased business.
    • Become experts at communicating technology concepts. Employ the Whole-Part–Whole and Tell-Show-Do models, and use analogies whenever possible.

Brian and Nicole then posed the following questions to the webinar attendees. Please join in the conversation on Google+.

For your reference, here are links to resources we’ve promised you:

KW Technology Ambassador Update | September 10, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Ambassador webinar last Friday, September 5. The slides are now available for you to download.

We focused on another best practice in training last week, which is being aware of and working to overcome the “Curse of Knowledge” that plagues us all at times.

“When we know something, it becomes hard for us to imagine not knowing it.
As a result, we become lousy communicators.”

—Chip and Dan Heath, from “Made to Stick”

This excerpt from Made to Stick explains how the Curse of Knowledge can get in our way of effectively training and supporting our learners. We’re at our best when we can put ourselves in the minds of our learners and see things through their eyes. In other words, we do have to imagine not knowing what we know, and remember what made the information “stick” for us when we first learned it.

Here are our top three tips for being an effective technical trainer despite the curse of knowledge:
  1. Eliminate jargon. This can be harder than it sounds. Albert Einstein said, “If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.” Watch out for acronyms and terms that may be unfamiliar to your learners. In fact, it’s a great idea to test-drive your classes with a trusted friend or family member first, preferably someone who has little to no knowledge of your training topic. They’ll be able to help you determine if your content is too technical and what needs to be simplified into “layman’s” terms.
  2. Use analogies. When you link new knowledge to knowledge that your learners already have, you’re using analogies. For example, when introducing the concept of databases, you could explain that a contact management database is like a rolodex, only modernized. It serves the same purpose—helps you find a person’s contact information—but does it faster and more efficiently.
  3. Assume nothing about your learners. Don’t assume that they know how to get to eEdge, White Pages, or even how to log in to myKW.  This is not meant to be insulting – everyone has to start at the beginning. And, often times, it’s the brand new agents that know nothing about KW Technology who are the most eager and enthusiastic learners. They came to you because they know you can help them with a problem or learn to be more self-sufficient.
What are you doing in your classes to simplify your content and make your training “stick?” Tell us by commenting on this post.

Here’s what’s on the webinar schedule this week. And, don’t forget that we’re constantly adding new videos to the KW Technology section of KWConnect.

Have a great day!

KW Technology Ambassador Update | September 4, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Ambassador webinar last Friday, August 29. The slides are now available for you to download.

We focused on best practices in training last week, specifically making sure that 50% of any class you teach is hands-on activity for the students. Studies show that students learn best by doing; don’t just lecture to them.

I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand.
~Confucius

If you want students to walk out of your classroom equipped with skills they can use, there is no substitute for hands-on, action-oriented practice. That’s why the courses published by Keller Williams University have Role-Model, Role-Play and Real-Play activities built in whenever possible, and you can aim for the same in your classes!

Through our KWU courses, we not only wants to increase our agent’s learning power in the classroom, we want to increase their earning power as well!

We achieve this by having students do actual business-building activities inside the classroom—activities that will lead to more closed transactions, such as making appointment-setting calls to prospects, or building a workable CMA.

Rather than simply theorize about action steps to be completed at a later time, students take those steps immediately, under the guidance of their trainer, and with the support and energy of the entire class behind them.

During last week’s webinar, we illustrated this practice by demonstrating a multiple-step process for adding annotations and closed captioning to a YouTube video. Webinar attendees were instructed to simply watch, rather than follow along. When we quizzed the attendees after the demo, many agreed it was more difficult to recall specific steps from simply viewing and listening. Had they followed along during the demonstration, actually clicking the same buttons, the rate of retention wold have increased.

What are you doing in your classes to increase learner activity and ultimately, retention? Tell us by commenting on this post.

Here’s what’s on the webinar schedule this week. And, don’t forget that we’re constantly adding new videos to the KW Technology section of KWConnect.

Fortunately, the recording of Friday’s webcast is available now so you can hear what you missed.

WEBINAR PLATFORM UPDATE
As a result of the experiment, we’ve decided to resume our webinars in GoToWebinar until we can improve the audio quality and registration process for GoToWebcasts. This Friday, August 22, and until further notice, please revert to the original GoToWebinar link to register and join these calls.

We appreciate your patience and input as we continually seek ways to improve your learning experience.

KW Technology Ambassador Update | August 6, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Ambassador webinar last Friday, August 1. The main discussion items were:
  1. eEdge myMarketing Launch Updates—On the evening of July 23, Market Leader rolled out a variety of updates and upgrades to the myMarketing portion of eEdge. We became aware of several issues that users have been encountering within the new system and we are working to address each of them as quickly as possible. View a list of the known issues, along with the status of each issue's resolution.
  2. Market Leader Champion Program Extended—Market Leader has extended all Champion benefits for another two months. If you’re currently a Champion, you’ll receive a recertification invitation around the middle of August. At that point, you will be required to take and pass the new certification quiz in order to maintain your Champion status. You may take the quiz as many times as you need to until you pass.
  3. eEdge myTransactions Updates—As of July 26, the compliance review process has gotten a lot easier! Learn about the new the myTransactions features.
  4. KW Mobile App Updates—Two exciting updates have been made to your KW mobile app:
    • Originally, your mobile app reflected a “Serving Areas” field which was populated by your market center’s city and state. You now have the ability to customize this feature to fit your business and the areas you serve. A new field has been added to the eAgentC Agent Website Admin Tool that will allow customization of this information. Learn how it works.
    • When a consumer visits your agent website on a mobile device, they will now be taken to a new mobile landing page which includes an option to return to your full website, in addition to the option to download your mobile app. Learn how it works.
For your convenience, the slides from Friday’s webinar are available for download now.  To access them:

  1. Log into Google with your @kw.com email address.
  2. Open the Google Drive folder containing all 2014 KW Technology Ambassador webinar slides.
Also, we’ve learned that DotLoop recently made a system update that will require you to enter your password if you're accessing myTransactions through the single-sign-on process from eEdge. If you don't remember your password, simply click the "Forgot Password" link and you'll receive an email prompting you to reset it.

KW Technology Ambassador Update | July 28, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in last Friday’s Ambassador webinar, during which we explored the new eEdge myMarketing system that went live last Wednesday, July 23.

Many of you were eager to receive the webinar content for use in your Market Centers. You can now access the webinar recording on KWConnect.

If you would like to deliver a training class on the new system in your Market Center, you can download a slide deck to use in your Market Center here.

*** Log into Google with your @kw.com email address before clicking the above link to view the slides. ***

At this time, the development teams at KW and Market Leader are working furiously to address each of the issues that users are encountering within the new myMarketing system as quickly as possible.

Our top priorities are still to:

  1. Prevent multiple emails to contacts. We suspended outgoing email campaigns last Friday. We have left ON the functionality that allows you to communicate one-on-one with your clients within eEdge so that critical business can continue.
  2. Ensure edits you make to template images in your marketing collateral can be downloaded in PDF format, without reverting to the original images.
  3. Eliminate the “?” that is appearing in return spaces in some collateral and campaigns.
  4. Ensure you can continue to run legacy campaigns that are appearing as "Not Available."

Again, we sincerely apologize for any frustration or disruption to your business. We will notify you immediately as solutions are found and put into place.

We’re also in the process of tracking down answers to questions asked on the webinar that could not be resolved immediately. We’ll have a full report for you on this Friday’s Ambassador webinar.

Looking ahead, here’s what’s on the webinar schedule this week. And, don’t forget that we’re constantly adding new videos to the KW Technology section of KWConnect.

Have a great day!

KW Technology Ambassador Update | July 16, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in last Friday’s Ambassador webinar. The main discussion items were:

  1. Special instructions for entering listing Lot Size in KWLS - You’ll need to enter the measurement as well as unit of measure in the same field.
  2. KW mobile app servicing areas change coming soon - You can enter the specific name of the area you service (instead of the default city and state of your Market Center). This will appear in the branding bar on your app.
    • Updates to the Mobile App Service Area field will take 24 hours to show up on the app.
    • More information to come as we get closer to the release date of this option.
  3. Market Leader Champion certification – Many of you asked about the status of your certifications. Look for an invitation this month from Market Leader to recertify.

KW Technology Ambassador Update | June 25, 2014

Greetings, KW Technology Ambassadors!

Thanks to all of you who participated in last Friday’s Ambassador webinar. Here’s a recap of the discussion items:

  1. Several of you asked, "Why do emails from KW.com addresses that are sent to other KW.com address go into Spam?" Our systems admins are aware of the problem and are preparing to take steps to mitigate this for our associates with KW Google Apps for Business accounts. Until then view the webinar slides for two ways to resolve this.
  2. As a Market Leader Champion, you play a crucial role in helping your colleagues succeed with Pro and Business Suite. Plus you enjoy a variety of exclusive benefits, including Market Leader Pro free through July 31, 2014. If you’re currently a Champion, you’ll be invited by Market Leader to renew your status by completing the certification quiz. Keep an eye on your inbox for this invitation.
  3. Many of you have expressed the need for access to parts of the KW Technology system that are only available to leadership. In order to find the best solution, we would like you to tell us specific what parts of the system you would like to access and why. If you haven't already, please comment and/or +1 existing comments on this Google+ post.
